Zambia’s First-Ever Linux, Kubernetes, and Containers Training: A Resounding Success

From March 17th to March 19th, 2025, Zambia witnessed a groundbreaking event in the field of open-source technology—the very first Linux, Kubernetes, and Containers training. This milestone event, hosted by Zamren and organized by the Living Open Source Foundation (LOSF), was led by none other than Mr. Sander van Vugt, a globally renowned Linux expert, Kubernetes trainer, and co-founder of LOSF.

The training attracted IT professionals from various organizations across Zambia, alongside students from the Living Open Source University (LOSU) program. The diverse mix of participants brought rich discussions and knowledge-sharing, fostering an environment of collaboration and technical excellence.

Day 1: Mastering Linux

The training kicked off with an in-depth session on Linux, covering everything from installation to executing fundamental commands. Participants were immersed in practical exercises that simulated real-world technical challenges. Through hands-on troubleshooting, they demonstrated remarkable problem-solving skills, solidifying their foundational understanding of Linux systems.

Day 2: Kubernetes in Action

Building on the Linux knowledge from Day 1, the second day focused on Kubernetes. Thanks to a well-structured lab environment set up by LOSF instructors Santos Chibenga and Arthur Kalikiti, participants seamlessly navigated Kubernetes concepts and deployment strategies. The practical approach ensured that attendees could apply their skills in real time, making Kubernetes less daunting and more accessible.

Day 3: Containers and Final Revisions

The final day centered on Containers, completing the full spectrum of modern open-source infrastructure training. Participants explored containerization techniques, reinforcing their knowledge of Linux and Kubernetes in the process. The day concluded with a comprehensive revision session, allowing attendees to revisit key concepts and clarify any lingering questions.

A New Era for Open Source in Zambia

This training marks a significant step forward in Zambia’s open-source community. Not only did it equip professionals with crucial Linux, Kubernetes, and Containers expertise, but it also highlighted the growing importance of open-source technology in Africa. The success of this event sets the stage for more advanced training opportunities, further cementing LOSF’s commitment to open-source education and innovation.

With such an overwhelming response, the Living Open Source Foundation is excited to host more initiatives that empower IT professionals and students alike. The future of open source in Zambia is bright, and this training is just the beginning!
