Revitalizing Local Economies: The Case of Open Source Agriculture in Africa Increasing the penetration of mobile phones and the internet among farmers, coupled with private investment, is driving the growth of interconnected technologies such as remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and big data analysis, which aim to boost the efficiency and productivity of farming in Africa.
These smart initiatives in the agriculture sector in Africa have resulted in significant growth, both from commercial and small-scale farmers
2. Bridging the Digital Divide: Open Source for Education in Rural Zambia In 2023, a Smart rural education pilot project was launched which has helped transform and provide education for the rural people in Zambia. This Project’s goals were to grow innovation across rural communities, provide access to smart rural education anchored on quality training materials for learners and resultant education qualifications, and connectivity to the internet which has further provided awareness in various learning activities and widely opened a dynamic market to rural traders
As a result, the literacy rate in these areas has improved significantly, and students are now pursuing higher education in technology fields.
